IT’S 40 not out for Bradshaw Cricket Club’s annual firework display, which is still going with a “bang” after four decades.

More than 4,000 spectators watched the sky light up during an enthralling 30-minute firework show at the club’s ground in Rigby Lane on Saturday.

The display has become a firm annual favourite in the area since the cricket club launched the fireworks show in 1972.

And Saturday’s 40th anniversary event proved the display has lost none of its magic and sparkle.

Club committee member Ray Taylor said: “It was one of our most successful and best displays and lasted 30 minutes — 10 minutes more than usual given that this was our 40th show. It was a continuous display.

“This is something we’ve always organised ourselves. We did start off 40 years ago with a bonfire and fireworks night, but brought it forward from November 5 and then did away with the bonfire.

“It’s been a continuous success since then.”

Along with an annual beer festival, the firework display is a key fundraiser for the cricket club, which plays in the Bolton League.

Mr Taylor added: “People clapped and cheered and the whole thing was very impressive.

“Because of the shape of our ground, a lot of people sit on the banking and get a really good view.”
